Dear 16 Year Old Brie

Some people might think I am too young to be writing this. But it was 5 years ago. And so much has changed. You know the song fifteen by Taylor Swift? Uh yeah.

Dear Me,

I promise it's you at age 20 almost 21. There is a lot a want to say but we don't have much time. Ok it's my blog so we have all the time in the world. But my attention span isn't that long. And I promise you its me because well, why else would I write this?

So first things first. Your relationship may seem pretty good at first but something will change it forever. You do not need him. Let me repeat: YOU DO NOT NEED HIM. At all. Not even a bit. He is gonna meet a new girl and you will absolutely hate her. You'll do some pretty mean things to her but try not too. It's not her fault he is a pig. And she'll become one of your best friends. Back to the boy.
He will hurt you and make you into a person you never thought you would be. You are going to grow apart from your friends because of him. He is not worth any of this.

When you finally break up, for real this time. You will mostly feel like the world is ending. But part of you will a tiny bit relieved, even if you don't admit it at first. You know you do no deserve to be treated that way. You know you deserve better. It's going to be scary because he is  the only constant in your life. You're gonna get through it. Don't be bitter though. It thought you so many things. How to love someone, what you need in a relationship, and how strong you are. You're going to meet someone absolutely amazing your senior year. People will try to talk you out of it, but he is the most incredible person. Don't be afraid. Love him with your whole heart.

I know that sometimes you get lazy and don't want to do your homework but do it. You are so smart but you are also lazy. You can't get through life like this. It only makes things harder on yourself. I know you hate Mr. Lettiere's class but you will learn more than you can even imagine. And start writing down all your homework, with the due dates. I promise this will help you a lot. And when it says a paper is 3-4 pages long, MAKE IT THAT LONG. Come on, it's not that hard.

You are an amazing person. And so much stronger than you give yourself credit for. Try to calm down a bit and be a little nicer to people. There will be a lot of ups and downs but downs won't last forever. Keep your head up darling.

With love,
You in 5 years
