Photoshop Tool Bar Part I

Have you ever tried to use Adobe Photoshop and just thought, "Wow,  I don't even know how to use this thing?" Well, you're in luck, I'm here to help you.

All Adobe programs are a little intimidating when you first start using them, but Photoshop is the worst. Sadly, it is also the most useful, especially to bloggers. I'm not going to show you how to use them, but what they are. That will come later, I promise.

The first thing to learn is grouping. Similar tools are hidden with each other. The tools that are grouped have little black arrows, like the one I have selected above. To access these tools, click and hold the button and a panel will come up, like the picture below.

Marquee Tool
There are four different Marquee tools, the rectangle marquee tool, the elliptical marquee tool, the single row marquee tool, and the single column marquee tool. This tool is used to select things. They're pretty obvious, you would use the rectangle tool to select something rectangular and so on.

Move Tool
You can access the move tool by clicking in on the tool bar or by click Command+V (apple) or Control+V) on the computer. You use this tool to move things. Obviously. lol

Lasso Tool
You can access the Lasso Tool by clicking it on the tool bar or pressing Command+L on your keyboard. This is a selection tool and it helps you select things in an image. You can drag your mouse and around something that you want to select, like a lasso.

Polygon Lasso Tool
This is another selection tool and is hidden behind the Lasso Tool. You make a point then drag lines to make a shape. This will select anything in that shape.

Magnetic Lasso Tool
The Magnetic Lasso Tool is hidden behind the Lasso tool. It helps you select the things like the lasso tool but it a lot faster. This tool as an edge detection tool. It will detect the edge of the object you are trying to select.

Quick Selection Tool
You can use this tool by clicking it on the tool bar or by pressing Command+W on your keyboard. Obviously, this is another selection tool but it is a lot more useful than the previous one's I've show you. This helps you select large areas of a photo quickly.

Magic Wand Tool
This selects areas based on color. It's not perfect but it does work pretty well. You can set the tolerance level higher or lower to set what it selects.

The Crop Tool
To use this tool select it on the tool bar or press Command+C. This tool is used to crop things (Duh!!! lol). It will delete anything you have not selected.

Eye Dropper Tool
You use this tool to select any color off of your picture. This is helps if you want to add text to your can make it match.

As you can see there is a lot of tools in here and that's only part one. Be sure to stop by tomorrow and Friday to see Part 2 and Part 3!
